An Alternative Christmas in Waterloo

2 December 2024

It’s Christmassssssss!

Here at The Sidings we are only thinking about one thing, Christmas! The decorations are up and the centre is full of Christmas gifts, food and drink. Meanwhile, our friends next door at Leake Street Arches are preparing for Christmas in a style unique to them – as we’d expect.

(Another) Miracle on Leake Street

For the 6th straight year, Leake Street Arches has transformed into the biggest and best festive venue for one night only. This alternative Christmas celebration has been organised by the lovely people at WeAreWaterloo and Southbank BID and this year they are going all out with a Christmassaoke thanks to our friends at Lucky Voice but that is just the beginning of the fun.

You’ll be pleased to know that the Rock Choir and Pink Singers are on hand to drown out any off-key voices!

The Entertainment is Packed In

Also on the entertainment programme there’s saucy cabaret courtesy of local drag star party host Pi The Mime, salsa dancing workshops, quirky wreath-making classes, giant board games, a craft market, a Spray Can Christmas Tree by Leake Street’s artist-in-residence and even an appearance from the glittering London School of Samba!

Upgrade the cheesy Christmas round-robin and capture a festive photo with friends or colleagues, courtesy of You Photo studio – with (machine blown) snow flurries in the air and Leake Street’s bold graffiti walls providing an iconic backdrop.

Need More? How about a ten foot high ‘spray can Christmas tree’? All sprayed in gold? Yep, you can always rely on Leake Street to provide the unusual.

Food and Drink

To keep you going through the evening there’s also a great mix of pop-up bars and food trucks in the Leake Street tunnel and of course everyone’s favourite underground Leake Street bars Passyunk Avenue, Draughts and Mamuska! plus the Aures venue will be joining in the festivities.

And All For a Good Cause

That should be more than enough to convince you to check out Leake Street this festive period but if you were looking for one more reason, then how about having all this fun AND making money for a great cause?

That’s right, monies collected for activities like the wreath making and graffiti workshops will all go towards the amazing charity ‘Waterloo Foodbank’. So really, you have literally no reason not to visit, we look forward to seeing you all soon.
