Walking around the South Bank is hungry work! After a long day exploring with the kids, and with the summer holidays in full swing the last thing you want to have to do is search Tripadvisor looking for the best family restaurants – so we’ve done it for you!
Marsha’s kids menu offers cute, smaller versions of some of the favourite dishes off the menu. It’s simple and small menu may not be ideal for the fussy eaters out there, but offers something a little different than the usual ‘chicken nuggets and chips’. It’s an affordable option (for London) with a deal of 2 for £8 on all kids dishes.
The restaurant itself has a laid back atmosphere with stylish and simple decor. On a sunny day, you can enjoy the outdoor terrace, with beautiful views overlooking the River Thames.
Get the taste of Mexico at Wahaca with their award-winning burritos and tacos. The colourful, vibrant restaurant is housed in 8 recycled shipping containers arranged on two levels alongside the Southbank Centre. They believe that street food is ageless and classless – which makes this the perfect spot for families to enjoy.
Little wahaca’s can explore the flavours of Mexico themselves by building their own tacos. These are priced at just £6 and come with a colouring sheet to keep them busy once their taco construction is complete!
An easy one to miss! Tucked away in Leake Street Arches beneath The Sidings, Banh Bao Brothers was one of the first to open in the tunnel and continues to lead a culinary rebirth in this cool spot. Here, you can enjoy pan Asian tapas surrounded by neon lights and cherry blossoms yet still manages to have a relaxed vibe.
This place is good for the adventurous little ones. Eaten in a traditional tapas style, the small dishes will be placed into the middle of the table to be enjoyed at everyone’s leisure; a perfect time for kids to try something new that they may never have tried before! Tapas is supposed to be great for family time, as this social way of eating can incite conversations between each other and have fun trying new dishes together.
Pizza Express
A classic. Dough Balls, pizza, pasta or salad, a dessert, a Bambinoccino and their Piccolo Activity Pack, all for £7.25. It’s the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion, with a chance to make your own pizza. Kids and grown-ups can have lots of fun playing games while getting hands-on with some pizza dough creations. It’s a great place if you’re in need of a quick bite before the train home, and you can always take your leftover pizza as a snack for the journey.
