We are thrilled to announce the launch of our summer piano competition, where we are inviting musicians and music lovers alike to showcase their talents for a chance to win a grand prize of £500.
On 3rd August we kicked off the competition with a special performance from Daniel Wilsher, finalist of Channel 4’s hit show The Piano. He put on two live performances but don’t worry if you missed them, check our social media for exclusive videos.
He is known for his remarkable talent and captivating performances, and he didn’t disappoint with his unique musical style, setting the stage for a summer of incredible musical moments.
We did indeed mention a competition (and a £500 prize!) so you’ll want to understand the details and we’ve kept them very simple.
Firstly you need to visit us here at the Sidings (hopefully that part was obvious) and locate our piano that sits at the bottom of the stairs as you arrive from Waterloo station. We simply want you to perform a piece of music of your choosing and capture the performance on video, then upload it to either Facebook or Instagram and tag @SidingsWaterloo – it’s important you upload it as a post and not a story so we don’t miss it!
The competition welcomes musicians of all ages and skill levels to participate. The winner will be selected based on creativity, originality, and overall performance. It’s live now and will be open until 31st August so you have plenty of time over the summer to come down and dazzle us with your performances.
The judging committee is pretty special as well, with members of Morley College and Daniel Wilsher himself making the final selection.
This initiative is a collaborative effort between The Sidings, Morley College, Waterloo Station, Markson’s Pianos, South Bank BID, and We Are Waterloo BID. We are working with these partners to foster a vibrant community of musicians and provide a platform for artistic expression in one of London’s busiest and most iconic locations.
“The piano at Waterloo Station is a symbol of our commitment to making art accessible to everyone. We are excited to have Daniel Wilsher launch our competition and are eager to see the talent that will emerge,” said Megan Doole, Centre Co-Ordinator at The Sidings.
So please join us this summer, share your musical talent, and take your chance to win £500. Whether you’re an aspiring pianist or just want to enjoy the performances, The Sidings promises a summer filled with music and creativity!
